Blogging 'set to peak next year'

First there is Peak Oil, Connecticut seems to have reached Peak Electricity, then we have Peak War Frenzy (US soldiers have had it and are on a major downcurve in support), and now we have Peak Blogging:
BBC NEWS | Technology | Blogging 'set to peak next year':

"The analysts said that during the middle of next year the number of blogs will level out at about 100 million.

The firm has said that 200 million people have already stopped writing their blogs."

snip

Gartner analyst Daryl Plummer said the reason for the levelling off in blogging was due to the fact that most people who would ever start a web blog had already done so.

He said those who loved blogging were committed to keeping it up, while others had become bored and moved on.

You better get your Blogshares before the market goes go crazy from the Blog shortage! You might be surprised how much your Blog - or a link from your Blog - is already worth. (If only it was real money and not a game! lol)

wow.. I'm a little surprised to read this, most of the people I know have blogged for quite a while and post often.. but they treat their journals as personal diaries. I actually go back and reread mine on occasion, to jog my memory of an event. I had two that I abandoned in 2000-2001 (here on Blogger), and I started my current one in mid 2004 (on LiveJournal).

but I've already seen the use of blogs evolve. They've grown more to be community oriented, verses the 'personal journal, for your eyes only'.

I find it ironic that they are saying Blogs will peak next year at a time that many journalists are dropping out of the MSM and into the Blogosphere.

Katrina and the tsunami have proven that Blogs can generate REAL journalism and get it out faster than the MSM was/is ever able to do. Blogs are evolving.

Almost every MSM outlet now has a Blog to add to their regular print content. I know that eventually it will peak, but like Fuzzy said, she has dead Blogs that were just replaced by another, and those are numbers that their "study" probably donesn't really consider.

Often people change Blogs as they search for the right vehicle for their voice, or as their interests change, resulting in a bit of skewering of those numbers. And you also have guys like Bob that will start a Blog at the drop of a hat (I do that as well for fun or a joke. I think I still have 11 blogspot Blogs? lol Not too mention the communities we all participate in)

It can make for a lot of Blogs that appeared to have stopped.
